Reflection After The Spice Cupboard Clean Out
Day 3: I Discovered I’m A Squirrel
Today is a day of resting from the physical portion of this Pantry Challenge for Beginners. You deserve it, you worked hard yesterday.
The reasoning is that, if like me, you are going to discover some aches and pains today. Or perhaps, you found this to be a bigger chore, and you need to divide the cleaning of your Spice Cupboard over 2 days. Whatever your reasons, it is perfectly okay.
Remember, this is to EMPOWER you towards a HOPE and a FUTURE, not over stress you. Remember, bite-sized pieces to do this challenge.
Discovery One: I Must Be Part Squirrel
As I worked on my Spice Cupboard yesterday, I discovered that I had squirreled away spices into at least 2 other locations besides the actual Spice Cupboard.
Do you do things like that too?
There was no room in that specific cupboard so, rather than deal with it, I, over time, had just stuffed things in other spots. The problem with that is that you don’t know what you have when it isn’t all in one spot.
For instance, as I was cleaning, I thought I only had one more serving of Caraway Seeds in the cupboard. However, after cleaning out the other 2 emergency spice storage areas, I found enough Caraway Seed to keep me going for the next year. Scratch that back off the shopping list. Amazing what you have when you look!
Discovery Two: This Should Have Been Done Over 2 Days
Don’t worry if you didn’t get all your Spice Cupboard cleaned up yesterday. It has been a couple of years since I’ve had the time to do mine. As a result, there was quite amount of dust and grime both on the shelves and the spice bottle containers. As my particular spice cupboard is actually 2 cabinet sections, I should have divided the job in half.
Yes, this is my 1949 Original kitchen. Green outside, Orange inside. Love it!!
Do it over 2 days if you need to. Especially if you’ve never really cleaned this section of your cupboards before, or it has been a long time. Like me, you will discover dust and grime you didn’t realize was there.
Just the process needed to condense 3 spice bottle contents into 1, can be time consuming. So, if you are actually still cleaning those cupboards today, make sure to take time to relax tomorrow then. Take a break, you deserve it.
Discovery Three: Look What Was Just Taking Up Space
How much were you able to de-clutter out of the cupboard?
This photo shows some of what I removed from my cupboard. It is isn’t pictured here, but I even grabbed a bunch of muffin tins I never use. I donated them to the Giveaway part of Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs. So, off to the basement display for them to find a new home with someone who might not have one.
Discovery Four: Things Are Stiff And Sore
I’m usually pretty active and move large pieces of furniture on a regular basis. I thought this assignment would be a breeze.
Well, first thing this morning, I came out to put the kettle on to make coffee. OUCH!! I moved to plug in the kettle, and just the reaching over to the electrical outlet was too much. Suddenly I developed a lower back spasm.
Guess going up and down the step ladder was too much after all.
So out with the heating pad and Xtra Strength Tylenol. After a couple of hours, when I could move a slight bit better, out come the Heat Rub Cream. Now I smell like that distinctive minty odor.
How are you feeling today? Let me know in the comments before.
Discovery Five: What Is On Your Spice Cupboard Inventory List?
Today is the day to reflect on what you have on hand in the spice cupboard. Is there a favorite spice that you are running low on? Write it down on your grocery list.
Did you discover spices you forgot you had? Do you have more of some spices than you knew?
If you’re like me, you are already trying to think of things to make with some of those forgotten spices in your cupboard.
Discovery Six: What Is That?
Did you discover any mystery spices in your cupboard? Let me know in the comments section and maybe we can come up with some ways for you to use it before tossing it.
I found some Fennel, of all things. Not sure what I’m going to do with it. Not many meals I can think of where I want to taste black licorice in it. Pinterest is a wonderful place though.
So, share with the rest of us your reflection after the Spice Cupboard clean out.
