Slow Cooking Cranberry Sauce
I’m not sure when or why we all started buying canned cranberry sauce when it is really very easy to make. And if you make it in the crock pot (slow cooker) it can be even easier. Although it doesn’t take very long to cook it on the stove top either, doing it in the crock pot allows you to go and do other things.
Instead of having to stand over the stove top, stirring and making sure it doesn’t burn, the crock pot is much simpler. In this case, put the ingredients in the crock pot, set the temperature, and let it slow simmer to perfection.
Nothing complicated about it. Bring back home cooked traditions into your home, no matter how busy your life is.
Cranberries—A National Berry
Cranberries are one of several berries that truly unite all 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada. It is a national berry for sure. In fact, it is a berry that is additionally celebrated annually in our region in the neighboring community.
Every year, the weekend after the Canadian Thanksgiving, they dedicate an entire festival to it. The Bala Cranberry Festival. With tours of the cranberry marsh and the opportunity to purchase the freshest of fresh cranberries.
An added beauty of cranberries is that no special preparation is needed to even pop them in the freezer to use later.
So, this fall when the opportunity arises to buy fresh cranberries in your local supermarket or farmer’s market, grab some. Then when it is time to celebrate a special occasion and you need cranberry sauce, surprise everyone with your homemade version.
Start a new tradition and bring Canadian heritage back into your home.
