Rosalies Companys Coming Coleslaw
After Barry and I got married in 1999, one of the first things he did was take me to visit some friends of his. This wonderful Godly couple quickly became my friends, and I, their’s.
Rosalie, although 30 years my senior, quickly displayed herself to me as a kindred spirit. One thing about her I did envy though. She had this huge gift of hospitality.
Quite often because of the busy ministry schedule that Barry and I had even back then, we would just drop in on them. It was a spur of the moment decision to take advantage of an open afternoon.
So Barry and I would pack up the kids and take an hour drive. Before we could even get out of the vehicle, Ardell would often have the front door open. Upon entering their home, both Ardell and Rosalie gave all us a “welcome home” hug.
This outflowing of hospitality wouldn’t stop there.
As we would come in and get settled, out came the coffee and the kids favorites—baked goodies. And while we sat there and caught up on each other’s busy lives, it wasn’t long before it was made clear that we were staying for dinner.
“We’re not taking no for an answer”, Ardell would often say. And Rosalie was quick to point out that after all they had just made a fresh batch of Coleslaw the day before.
Getting Ready For Dinner
So, everyone would pitch in. The kids would set the big dining room table in the other room. Rosalie and I would busy ourselves in the kitchen. Barry and Ardell would have a job too, especially if it was good weather to fire up the BBQ.
It became a mealtime favorite and looked forward to. I don’t know if I ever recall a time when we stopped by that Rosalies Companys Coming Coleslaw wasn’t the main attraction on the table.
After a few years of enjoying this coleslaw, I was able to finally convince Rosalie to share this beloved recipe.
So, here I am, sharing it with you. As I fondly think back on an incredible Christian couple who were always quick to open their door.
