Manitoba Chicken Wild Rice
Here is another recipe that is sure to delight your family as you celebrate Canada. The thing that makes this even more special is that you make it in your Crock Pot.
Although there is a couple minutes of preparation such as frying up some bacon and browning the chicken, in a few minutes you can walk away. Let the Crock Pot work for you and make you dinner. The ease of cleanup is also a pleasant bonus to this meal.
Served up with some Nunavut Pan Fried Bannock and you have a quick and easy meal.
More About Wild Rice
Wild Rice is not actually a rice, but rather an aquatic (water) grass seed. It is found primarily in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada. However, the Ontario production has been decreased due to the construction of Hydro Dams. This has destroyed many of the growing grounds for this natural Canadian vegetation. There are still some Wild Rice producers near Dryden, Ontario.
However, Manitoba is making fuller use of their Wild Rice locations. One such company, since 1935, is Oh Canada Wild Rice. It is also known as eatwildrice.ca.
Wild Rice is high in fibre, low in fat, and rich in protein. Also a source of other minerals and Vitamin B. This is a natural choice for today’s consumer looking for healthy food alternatives.
It just makes sense to eat one of the food sources naturally found here in Canada.
Look them up on the internet and see if there is a local retailer of Wild Rice in your region. In our area, I was able to locate a store in the next town. In Bracebridge, Ontario, Maple Orchard Farms features several Canadian products, including the Oh Canada Wild Rice.
However, if unable to find a local retailer, you can order these items on line as well.
