Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, whip the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the brown sugar and whip well.
  3. Add the egg and molasses and blend.
  4. In another large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. You can either use a sifter, or just blend with a wire whisk until combined.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon. The mixture will be stiff, so make sure to mix it well.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  7. Heat the oven to 375 degrees Farhenheit. Place the rack in the middle.
  8. DO NOT FLOUR HANDS.
  9. Roll the dough in 1 ΒΌ inch balls.
  10. With the white sugar in a small dish or sugar bowl, dip tops of cookie balls in sugar.
  11. Place the cookie balls, sugared side up, 3 inches apart on the cookie sheet.
  12. Sprinkle each cookie ball with 2-3 drops of water.
  13. Bake for 8-10 minutes or just until set but not hard.
  14. Remove from cookie sheet as soon as removed from the oven and place on cooling rack.
