How To Make A Roast Into Steaks
When is the last time you and your family were able to enjoy a juicy steak?
Well, if beef prices are the same in your neighborhood, then it has been quite a while. It has been over a year since beef prices have been reasonable in our region.
But how do you know if a price is reasonable? For a refresher, remember, never buy any cuts of meat that are over $8.80/kg ($3.99/lb). Check out this article to help you know How To Read A Meat Label. Knowing how to find roast beef at a good price will help you put steaks back on your BBQ and table.
Now that you know how to find a good price on the meat label—look for it on a boneless beef roast. In this example, I was able to find an Outside Round Boneless Beef Roast. It cost $6.59/kg which is better than $8.80/kg. I admit that this price is about the best that I’ve seen in quite a while. As my husband, Barry, enjoys a good steak dinner now and again I picked up a couple of roasts at this price.
I always do this whenever possible when I find beef roasts on sale. I buy one to save later for a roast, and I use the other one for steaks.
Make A Roast Into Steaks
Now that you have a boneless roast available to make into steaks, get out your electric knife. You can do this with another type of knife, it will just be more challenging. However, if you have a meat slicer, it will really be easier. In fact, a meat slicer will allow you to cut all of your steaks into uniform thickness.
Do you like thin steaks to pan fry? Or perhaps you like 3 inch slabs. Whatever your preference, you are the one in complete control. You are EMPOWERED towards a HOPE and a FUTURE, and STEAK!
So, go ahead and cut your boneless roast into as many and as thick or thin steaks as you can. With this particular boneless roast I was able to cut 8 steaks. So based on a total cost of $6.69, each steak now only costs $0.84.
