Expanded To Cover 2 Area Regions
The Frugal Friday Flyer was launched in February, 2016 for the Muskoka region. It was greeted with excitement and interest. Word started to spread as I continued to post it on Social Media every Thursday afternoon.
Within a couple of weeks, residents and clients from the next immediate region started sending me requests for their own version.
So with a few store additions and removals, I was able to quickly compile a separate list for the Parry Sound region residents as well.
Every Thursday afternoon now, the following 2 regions can access the Frugal Friday Flyer:
- Muskoka, covering primarily, Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and all the other local communities
- Parry Sound which also caters to smaller hamlets and villages such as MacTier
Sorry, I can’t compile one for your region too. I don’t have the time to do that and everything else Barry and I already do.
Why These 2 Regions?
Although I cannot do a Frugal Friday Flyer for everyone, I chose the Muskoka and the Parry Sound region for several reasons:
- Barry and I live here
- we, personally, do this for our own grocery shopping
- our town has over 60% of the residents living below the provincial poverty levels
- the need for a service such as this was clear
Where Is The Grocery Information Gathered From?
There are 2 main sources for gathering the information. The internet and traditional paper flyers. This is a much more extensive grocery store list than I prepare for Barry and myself. However this list is compiled of items that if you are feeding a growing family you would most likely need to buy.
So every Wednesday and Thursday, time is set aside in our otherwise busy schedules, to work on this Frugal Friday Flyer. I scour grocery flyer sites such as:
and additionally, using the paper copies of the grocery fliers. From this I am able to compile a 2-3 page list of grocery stores and their deals.
The following stores are included on the Frugal Friday Flyer every week:
- Food Basics
- Giant Tiger
- Your Independent Grocer
- Shoppers Drug Mart
These are the local grocery stores in our region. Combinations of these are found in Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, and Parry Sound.
I don’t include Costco, Aldi, Metro, and the such, because due to transportation issues faced by a huge number of residents. With a huge number of people only having the use of taxis, it makes no financial sense to travel to the cities of Orillia and Barrie. Both of these cities are quite a distance away, in fact, Barry and I can’t access them either.
Where Can You Find It On Facebook?
Then every Thursday afternoon, as soon as I have recharged the laptop battery, we get to the free WiFi location and post it.
You can locate it on several Facebook group sites, including:
- Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs
- Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs Group
- Let’s Make Bracebridge Great
- huntsville ont canada..buy , sell , trade or barter
- parry sound only free stuff to give away
- A Pantry Challenge for Beginners
In this way, you can find it on a FB site close to where you live if you reside in Muskoka/Parry Sound.
Helping You To Put More Food On Your Table
Not only is the Frugal Friday Flyer divided by community and stores, but also by food groups.
Whenever possible, while compiling a list of items on sale, the list is layered in the following manner:
- milk, cheese, yogurts
- breads, crackers, cookies
- canned items such as beans, tomatoes, vegetables
- baking items
- toiletries, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cleaners and more
This is so you can scan the lists more quickly and efficiently. You can then highlight, or write your own shortened list to take with you to the grocery store.
Available in PDF and Photo Format
In an effort to assist you to have a format easy to use, if can be printed off in pdf format. It is also available as photos too. This enables you to access and use this information whether you own a laptop, such as myself, or are on the run with your cellphone.
