Frugal Family Dinner Conversations
In this day and age of texting and social media, sometimes, we forget to stop and actually have a conversation. You know, the sit around the dinner table, family conversations.
It used to be a time to have everyone reconnect with each other after a busy day. Today, even with all of our increased technology, families are actually more disconnected from each other than ever before.
Perhaps you and your family have such busy schedules that even sitting down to a meal together is a challenge.
The only way things can change is to – well – change them. You are EMPOWERED towards your HOPE and a FUTURE. Only you and your family can change the current path of hectic lifestyle you are living.
Plan A Sit Down Meal Together
If your lifestyle is truly hectic and it has been ages since all members of the family have sat at the same meal, now is the time for a change. It doesn’t need to be done overnight either.
When life, schedules, and activities are happening daily you may need to purposely schedule a family meal. Perhaps you need to hold a family meeting to determine what needs to trimmed out of everybody’s schedules. Plan on having 1 dinner a week with all members of the family around the table.
If you can schedule in so many other things, you can make the time and determination to schedule in your family time too.
And yes, sit down together at the table. None of this balanced on your knees, crouched over the coffee table type meals. Actually gather around a table with chairs to sit on as a family.
Turn off all of the distractions. No television, radio, cell phones, or laptops to interrupt. Don’t even answer the phone if it rings—that is what answering machines are for. And, at mealtime, that phone call is likely a telemarketer or scammer anyways.
This is a time to do face to face conversations in addition to enjoying a good meal together.
So, step one—plan to schedule a sit down meal together as a family.
It is important to connect with your family. It is through the relationships in families that help you in all the other relationships in your life.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am not professing to be a perfect parent. In fact, I’m confessing that I am not a perfect parent. Just like you, I make and made mistakes with raising my children.
In fact, news flash, there is no perfect parent on earth. The only perfect parent is God Himself, and even knowing that, how many of us, His children, disagree, pout and argue with Him too? All of us.
So, don’t worry. You will screw up as a parent—but, the damage doesn’t have to last a lifetime. Just like in an earlier article, you have received the gift of free will. And with that gift of free will, comes the ability to change our choices.
So, even if your relationship with your spouse and children has not been the best, you are EMPOWERED by choice to change things. Starting today, you can move towards a HOPE and a FUTURE.
So, step two—build family relationships
