Cleaning The Plate And Bowl Cupboard
Day 8: Dinner Number Two
Another day, another meal, another cupboard to clean. Yes, you are now on day 8 of the Pantry Challenge for Beginners. Although cleaning cupboards can be a chore, it is also liberating. Even EMPOWERING. To come into your kitchen every day, and see more and more of it being cleaner. Even among the busiest lifestyles and schedules, you can do this. This is the beauty of this Pantry Challenge—the self-paced strategy that will help you succeed.
Yesterday, you cooked a meal from your cupboard. Today, you will do another. For Barry and I, today’s dinner will be something I’ve called Spicy Beef Rice and Tomato Hash. In this meal I’ll be using a can of diced tomatoes, and minute rice from my Pantry Cupboard. For the spices, I’ve gone back to my Spice Cupboard organization results from day 2. In there I’ve found:
- curry powder
- chili powder
As this dinner is a one pot dinner in an electric skillet, it has freed up time to continue cleaning in the kitchen.
Cleaning the Plate and Bowl Cupboard
Like the cup and glasses cupboard you cleaned yesterday, this one shouldn’t take too much time either. But having it cleaned will be progress towards a HOPE and a FUTURE for you. Once again, grab a bowl filled with soapy water, a wash cloth and a towel. And in my case, I needed Barry to go get me a 4 foot step ladder. He doesn’t want me standing on the counter top to reach the highest shelves anymore.
Pull all the piles of plates out onto the counter top. Wipe down each shelf and dry as you go. Don’t forget to clean the inside and outside of the cupboard door too. I even use a firm toothbrush to clean around the door knobs.
As you return the plates and bowls back to their shelves in the cupboard, check for chipped items. Any plates or bowls with chips or cracks should be thrown out. That is because, when the glaze on the dishes is broken and the clay below is exposed it becomes porous. A perfect place for germs and bacteria to grow. So don’t risk the health of your family, throw these out. As well as reducing the risk of cutting yourself on sharp edges.
As you sort through these dishes, take the time to consider whether there are any you should de-clutter and repurpose in someone else’s life. After you have cleaned this cupboard, don’t forget to close the door. Closed cupboard doors instantly helps a kitchen to look cleaner.
There, that wasn’t too difficult was it?
