Why Do A Report Like This?
There are several reasons why bloggers do posts like this. One reason is to let you know what the most popular articles were so that you can catch up on any that you missed. And don’t we all have those popular countdown lists that we look forward to at this time of year?
One such list that I eagerly wait for is the year end Top 50 Christian Music Countdown featured on Life 100.3 FM. This is the local Christian radio station that wakes me every morning. There is no better way to greet the day than with praises to God.
So, I like countdowns, you like countdowns, a lot of people like countdowns. That is a good reason for putting an article like this together.
But it is also important to look over statistics such as these to determine how we can service you better. That is right! It is about you.
Lists like this help us here at Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs to look at what interests you. In this way we can look at ways of giving you other articles that will help EMPOWER you towards a HOPE and a FUTURE.
That is a primary reason to put a report like this together—to help you!
So, let’s discover what articles interested you.
1. How To Read A Meat Label
This was a very popular post. When dealing with dire financial hardships, the grocery budget is usually one of the first areas that gets addressed and slashed. Typically the most expensive item on the grocery budget is the meat.
So, how do you know you are getting the best deal for your meat dollars?
It helps to know how to read the meat label for starters. When you can quickly identify meats on sale, you are able to increase the amount of meats in your grocery budget. The best way to identify when the meats are on sale is through reading the meat label.
Not only can you determine the type of meat cut it is, you also can see:
- how much it weighs
- the price per kilogram
- best before or packaged on dates
- and the total price
Never buy a cut of meat that is priced at over $8.80/kg. And if you are American, that means never buying a cut of meat over $3.99/lb. That is the absolute top price I will pay for meat.
Once you know your “ceiling”, you can quickly recognize when meats are on sale. Anything that is less than $8.80/kg is worth looking at putting in your shopping cart. But, remember, the cheaper the better. This means looking for those $3.49/kg meats or lower.
You can eat real foods, even on a tight budget. But it all begins with knowing how to read a meat label.
2. How To Reduce Your Hydro By $407 A Year
3. How To Qualify For The Ontario Fair Hydro Plan
Coming in together at number 2 and 3 is the issue of electricity bills. These articles explore how Barry and I have personally reduced our hydro bills over the past year.
Being low income ourselves at less than $10,000 combined annual taxable income, Barry and I qualify for this new government assistance for electrical charges.
Through our daily humanitarian aid services at Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs, we know that many of the 2,000 families we assist in our region annually, also struggle with income issues. Many of you, also live well below the poverty line. Because of this we desire to give you tools to EMPOWER you towards a HOPE and a FUTURE.
Two of these tools include using the Ontario Fair Hydro Plan and the Ontario Electricity Support Plan if you qualify. These articles discuss what these plans are and to see what the qualification requirements are. With the latest program addition, the Ontario Fair Hydro Plan, more people qualify than ever before.
If so, get signed up today and start realizing a decrease in your electrical charges in the very near future. Don’t you pay enough on all your bills now? Being able to reduce even just this one will EMPOWER you.
Along with implementing other hydro reducing initiatives in our home, in addition to these assistance programs, our electrical bill is averaging $25/month. Yes, these are real savings you need to look at and see if you qualify too!
4. Why You Should Clean The Bottom Of Your Frying Pan
This article makes me chuckle that it made the top 5 list. However, it was written out of pure frustration at the condition of frying pans that regularly get donated to Free Stuff 4 Daily Needs. First of all, it boggles my mind that people on a large scale don’t clean the bottom of their frying pans for years, if ever.
Why is that?
Although I don’t explore the reasoning behind why people have left the filth on the bottom, we look at why you should clean it.
Some reasons include:
- risk of fire
- threat of food poisoning
- and well, it is just gross, greasy, and yucky!!
By cleaning the bottom of the frying pan everytime you wash it, you will make keeping it clean—a breeze! Then you won’t have to spend an hour or more, cleaning off years and layers of built up grease and food particles like I do with the donated frying pans.

5. Dishwasher vs Hand Washing: The Debate Continues
This article when shared on social media brought in a ton of comments. Some shared my opinion, others defended their beloved dishwashers.
Being fair to both sides, the real cost factors between both methods were investigated. With charts, yearly costs calculated and more.
There are many personal factors you may use to determine whether the dishwasher or handwashing is your preferred method. However, when you are struggling financially and need to look for ways to further reduce your bills by even $10—an issue such as this is important.
Whichever method liberates you in your kitchen, this post lets you know the price you are paying for that choice.
Dishwasher vs Hand Washing: The Debate Continues. Which side are you on?
