3 Ways To Simplify Life And Save Money
Everyone is on a financial journey. Some seem to have a much better handle on their finances. Perhaps they are blessed with higher paying jobs, received an inheritance, or perhaps even bought a house before the housing market exploded. You know what I mean, a sad, fixer upper house is now over $1 million dollars in some regions.
For many more of us though we struggle with money, or the lack of it. We are constantly fighting to keep our heads above the debt water.
Are you struggling to put real food on your table? Struggling to pay basic monthly bills?
If you answered yes and can admit you are struggling financially, then today you will be empowered. EMPOWERED towards a HOPE and a FUTURE.
Here are 3 ways to simplify life and save money, starting today. Not all of them will suit you and your lifestyle, however, just doing 1 of these, will put you back in control of your financial situation.
1. Turn Off The Television
Yes, turn off the television. Get up and do something instead.
A television uses electricity, which adds more cost to a bill that many people already struggle with. So by turning off the television you can reduce this bill a little.
By not watching as much television enables you to look at your current satellite or cable bill. Are you able to reduce the package you currently have? Why pay for a larger package if you can get the programs that are most important to you for less. There is no need to keep paying for 20 channels to have the same programs keep repeating. Reduce the costs where necessary and possible.
Barry and I don’t even have cable or satellite. We get 2 free to air television stations. In this way, we have been able to keep our television costs trimmed as much as we can. Other than never watching it at all.
And by not watching as much television, you will not be swarmed with advertisements that keep trying to convince you that what you have is not enough. Ads telling you to buy, buy, buy.
2. Thin Out Your Stuff And Start Selling
There comes a time to stop collecting “stuff”. Many times you have more items than you either need or use. So no matter what time of year it is, “spring clean” your home. Join the growing minimalist movement. Not only will you save money, you will find ways to make the items you already have, do more. Be creative.
Instead of just junking everything, sell whatever is of value. There are many ways to sell your unneeded items.
- Facebook buy and sell sites
- have a Yard Sale
- or hold an Auction (although this can be expensive)
So stop cluttering up your home and life. Get rid of the unnecessary items and make some money. You will save money by not buying items that you probably won’t use anyways.
Declutter and make some money. Stop buying what you don’t need, and save money.
3. Make Gifts Instead Of Buying Them
You will be amazed, but a homemade gift is valued much more by the person receiving it than the store bought variety.
I have a homemade birthday card that I received for my 9th birthday. It is extremely precious to me. You see, my dad, at the age of 30, died of a heart attack less than 10 months later.
Before I turned 10 years of age, my dad was gone. But one thing remained. The handmade birthday card he drew for me and the poem he included. Never underestimate the priceless value of a handmade gift.
There are many ways to get ideas to get your creative juices flowing. Check out Pinterest for instance. There are many inexpensive ideas on there to try.
Perhaps you have a crafting skills such as:
- other needle crafts
- making soaps or candles
- your imagination is the limit
Make something that they need. Perhaps mitts for the winter, fragrant soaps to use, or even crib sheets. The ideas are endless.
You can even give your services as a gift too. Perhaps you can offer some babysitting services for a tired mom. Do you enjoy cleaning house? Offer a gift to clean an elderly person’s home.
Make a freezer dinner for someone recovering from a death in the family or recent surgery.
How do you find the time to make these gifts or do these services?
Remember tip number 1? Turn off that television and do something. Not only do you save the money there, it freest up your time to make your own gifts or offer services.
There are many ways that you can give a gift of yourself to someone you love and care about. Something that is priceless and won’t just fit in a box.
